According to the US Census Bureau:

foodbf13% of our eligible workers are unemployed.
7.9% of our families have an income below the Florida Poverty Level.
12.6% of our citizens ages 18-64 have an income below the Florida Poverty Level.
5.8% of our senior citizens 65 and over have an income below Florida Poverty Level.

6.8% of Households in Charlotte County receive Food Stamp Benefits.
21% of Charlotte County Children are in a family receiving Food Stamp Benefits

In a 2012 Report:

The Charlotte County Family Services Center serves on average 258 individuals daily.
590 frail or socially isolated seniors were assisted with case management & other in‐home services.
2,084 low‐income households were provided with financial assistance with home energy, water,food, housing and self‐sufficiency initiatives.
Housing Services administered $2M in housing sub‐contracts which provides qualified residents with down payment assistance, new home and rental assistance, foreclosure prevention,rehabilitation and financial counseling.
Transit Services provided 154,874 trips to individuals, including transportation disadvantaged and Medicaid trips.
Veterans Services assisted with 20,547 separate claims. Annually the division generates $81.6M in revenues to the local economy through benefits paid to veterans and their families.
