Save a Pint, Buy Toilet Paper
How would you feel if you couldn’t afford toilet paper? Probably what I thought: GROSS. Did you know that during the summer months, the biggest need for low-income families is toilet paper and breakfast cereal. Why? Think about it…kids are out of school. During the school year, they wipe at school all day, and most are signed up for a free breakfast program. Now it is the summer, and while parents can manage to keep a roof over their heads, they fall short for groceries. A box of cereal is what…$4? Heck, for $2 you can buy a giant bag of generic Tastey-Os. You can also buy a 4 roll pack of TP at Dollar Tree for $1. This has motivated me. While I am constantly joking about being a “broke college student,” I make enough money to pay my bills and go out for beers several times a week. For the cost of one pint at my local pub, I could buy a bag of Tastey-Os and 12 rolls of toilet paper for a needy family. EVERY WEEK. Heaven knows, I could stand to cut back a few beers. I am now challenging each one of YOU to do the same. Or find some small way you can help people in your community. For my Charlotte County peeps there is a great organization called H.E.L.P. in Charlotte County you can donate stuff to run by Elaine Oliver. For peeps elsewhere, take a few minutes to do a Google search or ask around. There is it, and now I shall step off my soap box. 🙂 ♥
